TechFlow News — On October 10, at the "Polkadot China Tour - Parachain Edition" event in Beijing, co-hosted by PolkaWorld, Parity, and the Web3 Foundation, Polkadot founder Gavin Wood shared updates on Polkadot's latest development progress and the status of parachain development. He stated that XCMP (Cross-Chain Message Passing) is expected to be delivered in late 2020 or early 2021.
Recently, he finalized another key component for cross-chain messaging—the XCM (Cross-Consensus Message) format. While XCMP is part of the solution, XCM defines the message standard, serving as the common language through which chains interact.
Progress on parachains:
- The Rococo testnet remains active.
- On the technical side, focus remains on resolving validity and availability (security aspects).
- Cumulus is being tested within Rococo.
- A new version of the Rococo chain will be relaunched.
- These milestones are expected to be achieved within the next one to two months.
- Parachains are expected to go live on Polkadot by end of year or early next year, initially deployed first on Kusama.
- Parachain rollout will be gradual. The first parachains will not be auction-based but system-level parachains, aimed at reducing relay chain load and enabling more parachains over time.
