TechFlow news — In 2017, John McAfee, founder of antivirus giant McAfee, heavily promoted the value of Bitcoin. On July 17, 2017, when asked whether a single Bitcoin would reach $500,000 within three years, McAfee replied: "Absolutely yes, otherwise I'll eat my own genitals live on national television." A few months later, he wrote again: "I predict that by the end of 2020, Bitcoin will reach $1 million. If I'm wrong, I will still honor my promise."
Now, three years have passed since his initial bet that Bitcoin would hit $500,000—but Bitcoin hasn't reached that price, and McAfee has backed out.
However, McAfee once stated on his personal Twitter that it was merely a "gimmick" to attract new users to buy Bitcoin, adding, "Which idiot would actually eat his own genitals?"
