TechFlow news — On July 16, Beijing time, the Twitter accounts of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates were hacked, posting content related to a cryptocurrency scam.
Musk's account posted a tweet on Wednesday urging followers to send Bitcoin, promising to double any "payments" sent to a specified address. The tweet was deleted within minutes. Later, a second Bitcoin-related tweet appeared on his account before also being removed.
The hack affected numerous high-profile individuals and companies, including Bill Gates, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, former U.S. President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, investor Warren Buffett, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Apple, and Uber. All posted similar messages. Some compromised accounts linked to a phishing website named CryptoForHealth. So far, hackers have received 12 bitcoins.
In response, Justin Sun tweeted that he is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to the capture of the mastermind behind this Twitter hack. Notably, Sun's own Twitter account was also compromised in the attack.
