TechFlow news — On July 16, Beijing time, the Twitter accounts of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates were hacked, posting content related to cryptocurrency scams.
Musk's account posted a tweet on Wednesday asking followers to send Bitcoin, promising to double any "payments" sent to a specified address. The tweet was deleted within minutes, followed by a second Bitcoin-related post from the same account, which was also quickly removed.
The hack affected numerous high-profile individuals and corporate accounts including Bill Gates, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, former U.S. President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, investor Warren Buffett, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Apple, and Uber, all of which posted similar scam messages. Some other compromised accounts linked to a phishing website called CryptoForHealth.
