TechFlow reports, July 16, according to the Financial Times, Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI will launch a new model, with capabilities close to models developed by leading US AI labs, such as Anthropic, indicating that the gap between China and the US in the field of most advanced AI is continuously narrowing.
According to two informed sources, Moonshot AI plans to release Kimi K3 within the next few days, the model has a parameter scale reaching 2 trillion to 3 trillion, making it China's largest AI model to date. Anthropic has not disclosed the parameter scale of its models, but industry insiders generally speculate that Opus 4.8 has about 1.5 trillion to 2 trillion parameters.
The sources stated that, according to mainstream evaluation benchmarks, K3 is expected to surpass the performance of Opus 4.8, and will be available for free download as a so-called "open-weight" model, which will also pose a significant challenge to US AI labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI. The high-cost frontier models of these companies currently remain closed-source.
