TechFlow news, July 02, Onyx Protocol announced that Onyx Layer 3 (XCN Ledger) will officially cease services on December 31, 2026, and subsequent development resources will be fully shifted to Onyx Layer 1. The official statement indicated that XCN will maintain its native Ethereum ERC-20 asset properties unchanged, and the XCN contract on Ethereum will continue to serve as the primary asset carrier in the ecosystem, used for liquidity, governance, and staking. Users will still be able to, as needed in the future, bridge XCN on Ethereum to Onyx Layer 1 to participate in staking, applications, and subsequent network functions.
This adjustment aims to concentrate engineering resources on a single network, drive protocol development, enhance validator participation, simplify developer experience, and unify ecosystem liquidity. Onyx Protocol stated that with the launch of Onyx Layer 1 and the decentralized banking network Onyx Mesh launched in collaboration with Chain, the existing infrastructure is now capable of supporting both decentralized applications and institutional-grade financial systems simultaneously.
