TechFlow reports, on July 1, regarding the exposure of detection code in Claude Code targeting Chinese users, Claude Code team member Thariq Shihipar responded that the relevant feature was an experiment launched in March this year, mainly used to identify unauthorized distribution behavior and prevent model distillation. According to the description, the relevant code would detect timezone, proxy, and possible artificial intelligence laboratory information.
He stated that the team has since deployed more comprehensive alternative measures, the relevant pull request has been merged, and the feature will be completely rolled back in the new version released on July 2, 2026.
