TechFlow News, June 21: According to Forbes, during the 2026 U.S. congressional primary elections, “Protect Progress”—a Democratic-aligned PAC backed by Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz under the Fairshake umbrella—has heavily intervened in multiple Black-majority district primaries. The PAC invested over $4.9 million in Maryland candidate Adrian Boafo, spent more than $5 million in Texas to help Christian Menefee defeat anti-crypto legislator Al Green, and deployed approximately $4 million in Georgia to support Jasmine Clark’s successful campaign.
None of the related campaign advertisements referenced the cryptocurrency industry’s involvement. Journalist Joy Reid labeled this strategy “Blackwashing”—a practice wherein crypto-industry funds are funneled into Black-majority districts under the guise of progressive values while deliberately concealing the identity of the financial backers. Analysts note that the core logic driving this network is not race-based, but rather centers on promoting allies and undermining critics—with the ultimate objective of influencing the legislative trajectory of the pending Digital Asset Market Structure Clarification Act (CLARITY Act).
