TechFlow News, May 30: According to reports by Iranian media cited by Xinhua News Agency, Salimi, a member of the Presiding Board of Iran’s Parliament, stated that Iran’s plan to “exercise sovereign jurisdiction” over the Strait of Hormuz is poised for parliamentary approval and is expected to be elevated to permanent law.
Salimi added that the management framework for the Strait of Hormuz should be jointly determined by Iran and Oman, and other countries have no right to interfere in related arrangements.
The report noted that Iran has already engaged in communications with Oman regarding this plan, and Oman has expressed preliminary support. The two sides are expected to reach further consensus on the proposal in the near future.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy shipping corridors, linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and handling a substantial share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation. Markets widely anticipate that, if the legislation is ultimately enacted, it could impact regional shipping, energy trade, and the broader Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape.
