TechFlow news: On May 14, according to Decrypt, Nigel Farage, leader of the UK’s Reform UK party, is facing a formal investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards over his failure to declare a £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) personal gift from Christopher Harborne, an investor in Tether.
Harborne holds a 12% stake in Tether, the stablecoin giant, and is Reform UK’s largest donor; last year, he made a single donation of £9 million—the largest political donation ever made by a living individual in UK history. Farage stated that the gift was intended to ensure his personal security and insisted it was given before he announced his candidacy, meaning he had no obligation to declare it. If found in violation of the parliamentary code of conduct, Farage could face penalties ranging from a written apology to suspension or even expulsion from Parliament.
