TechFlow news, April 5: According to the Financial Times (UK), the UK is seeking to encourage Anthropic to expand its operations in the country. Citing informed sources, the newspaper reported that the UK government’s proposals to Anthropic range from expanding its office in London to pursuing a dual listing. Neither Anthropic nor the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology immediately responded to Reuters’ request for comment.
The office of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has consistently supported the work of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The UK plans to present these proposals to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei during his visit to the UK at the end of May. Earlier, the U.S. government placed Anthropic on a blacklist, designating the company as a national security supply-chain risk due to its refusal to permit the U.S. military to deploy Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude for surveillance or autonomous weapons systems in the United States. A U.S. judge has temporarily blocked enforcement of the blacklist; meanwhile, this AI startup has filed a second lawsuit challenging the supply-chain risk designation, which remains pending.
