TechFlow News, April 2: According to CoinDesk, Coinbase’s agent-based commercial payment protocol, x402, has officially joined the Linux Foundation to advance its development as an open, standardized infrastructure. An initial governing body—the x402 Foundation—has been established for the protocol, with Cloudflare and Stripe serving as founding members. Other organizations—including Adyen, Amazon Web Services, American Express, Ant International, Base, Circle, Google, KakaoPay, Mastercard, Microsoft, Polygon Labs, Shopify, Solana Foundation, and Visa—have also expressed interest in participating.
Jim Zemlin, CEO of the Linux Foundation, stated that the x402 Foundation will drive the development of related capabilities through open, community-led governance, ensuring its evolution adheres to principles of transparency, interoperability, and broad participation. James Tromans, General Manager of Web3 and Digital Assets at Google Cloud, added that Google’s participation in the x402 Foundation reflects its commitment to supporting interoperable, AI-driven transaction standards.
