TechFlow News, March 30: According to CoinDesk, on the decentralized prediction market platform Polymarket, a trader capitalized on a misannouncement during a UFC event to convert approximately $676 into roughly $67,000 in under one minute—generating nearly a 100x return.
In this UFC heavyweight bout, Tyrell Fortune defeated Marcin Tybura. However, arena announcer Bruce Buffer initially misreported the result, declaring Tybura the winner. As a result, Tybura’s shares on Polymarket surged to $0.99, while Fortune’s shares plummeted to around $0.01.
Trader LlamaEnjoyer (X account Verrissimus) noticed the anomaly following the misannouncement and abandoned a plan to purchase $100,000 worth of Tybura shares at $0.99. Instead, he bought $676 worth of Fortune shares at $0.01. Seconds later, UFC corrected the announcement, and Fortune’s share price rebounded to $1.00, yielding the trader approximately $67,000 in profit.
