TechFlow News, March 10: According to JINSHI Data, a senior U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) official stated on March 10 that prospects for resuming negotiations—regarding the use of Anthropic’s AI tools for military purposes—are slim, following Anthropic’s unprecedented legal challenge against the U.S. government’s designation of the company as a supply-chain risk. Dr. Emil Michael, the DoD’s Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, said on Monday that Anthropic’s lawsuit was an “expected reaction,” and that the company’s attempt to overturn the supply-chain risk designation would not alter the Pentagon’s decision. In an interview, Michael stated: “I don’t believe there is any possibility of resolving this issue in this manner.” Several hours before Michael made these remarks, Anthropic filed a lawsuit seeking to block the Pentagon and other agencies from labeling it a U.S. supply-chain threat and prohibiting it from obtaining government contracts. In court filings earlier on Monday, Anthropic claimed these actions violated the company’s constitutional rights to freedom of speech and due process.
