TechFlow News: On March 1, according to the Hong Kong Commercial Daily website, the Hong Kong Police Force announced that it received a total of 12,505 online shopping fraud cases in 2025—a year-on-year increase of 8.2%. The single largest loss case involved cryptocurrency transactions: a victim joined a Telegram cryptocurrency trading group and was deceived by a scammer impersonating Bittwatt (BWT) customer service into revealing a verification code, resulting in the hijacking of their Telegram account and the complete theft of assets from the linked cryptocurrency wallet—causing losses exceeding HK$3.7 million. The police advised users to contact customer service exclusively through official channels when conducting cryptocurrency transactions, never disclose verification codes to others, carefully verify transaction details before making payments, and use the “Anti-Scam Vision” tool to assess fraud risk.
