TechFlow News, February 20: According to the Financial Times, NVIDIA is nearing finalization of a $30 billion investment in OpenAI, replacing the two companies’ previously announced $100 billion long-term commitment from last year. Sources familiar with the matter said negotiations between NVIDIA and OpenAI have reached their final stage and could be concluded as early as this weekend. The sources added that the $30 billion equity investment forms part of a larger funding round expected to raise over $100 billion, which would value OpenAI at $730 billion (pre-money, excluding the new capital). They noted that OpenAI plans to reinvest the majority of the new funds into NVIDIA hardware, but the two companies will not proceed with the multi-year $100 billion investment partnership announced in September last year. That high-profile agreement was put on hold amid growing investor concerns about the health of the AI industry—which has contributed to a 17% decline in U.S. tech stocks since the start of the year.
