TechFlow News: On January 27, according to Decrypt, a North Korea-linked hacker group is launching attacks against cryptocurrency industry personnel using AI-generated deepfake video calls. Martin Kuchař, co-founder of BTC Prague, revealed that attackers contact targets via compromised Telegram accounts, schedule video calls, and use AI technology to impersonate individuals known to the victims. During the calls, attackers claim there are audio issues and trick victims into installing a so-called “Zoom audio repair tool,” which is in fact malware. Once installed, hackers gain full system control, enabling them to steal Bitcoin and take over accounts. Security researchers attribute this attack method to BlueNoroff—a subgroup of the Lazarus Group affiliated with North Korea. In 2025, such AI-driven scams have caused record-breaking cryptocurrency-related losses totaling $17 billion.
