TechFlow News, January 26: According to a report by Cointelegraph, cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler discovered a publicly accessible database containing approximately 149 million usernames and passwords. These credentials were harvested from infected personal devices via info-stealing malware. The database includes account information linked to multiple major platforms, with at least 420,000 login credentials tied to Binance users.
Experts emphasize that this incident does not indicate a breach of Binance’s systems; rather, the compromised login information was extracted from infected devices using “info-stealing” malware. This malware masquerades as gaming cheat tools or mods and specifically targets cryptocurrency wallets and browser extensions, affecting over 100 browsers and at least 80 cryptocurrency exchanges—including Binance, Coinbase, Crypto.com, and MetaMask.
