TechFlow, December 23 — According to Hong Kong media outlet Hong Kong 01, a Japanese company operating in cryptocurrencies and luxury handbags was robbed in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, losing 1 billion yen (approximately 50 million HKD). The incident occurred on the morning of December 18, when four knife-wielding assailants snatched four suitcases containing cash within just 30 seconds.
Hong Kong police have arrested 15 people, some of whom have triad affiliations. Seven suspects have been formally charged with "conspiracy to rob." Police stated that all individuals involved in the case have been apprehended, including the mastermind, though the whereabouts of the stolen money remain under investigation.
The 39-year-old male victim, who is from mainland China and entered Hong Kong on a two-way permit, was assisting with luggage alongside a driver at the time of the robbery. Both were employees of the Japanese company dealing in cryptocurrencies and luxury handbags. They had planned to exchange the proceeds brought from Japan into cryptocurrency and Hong Kong dollars via a Hong Kong money changer, but were attacked en route to their destination.
