TechFlow, December 20 — According to Jinshi Data, White House economic adviser Hassett said in a Friday interview with Fox Business Network that U.S. President Trump was correct in stating inflation is low, despite disagreement from data, public opinion, and most economists. Hassett argued that the common practice of assessing inflation on a year-over-year basis is flawed, and it's better to examine price pressures using a three-month moving average. This implies that price pressures are not significantly exceeding the Federal Reserve's 2% target—in fact, they are below it. Hassett explained that based on the three-month average of price pressures, current inflation is around 1.6%. Core inflation in the U.S. is "at or below target levels," giving the Fed "ample room" to cut interest rates.
