TechFlow news, on December 10, Yu Xian, founder of blockchain security firm SlowMist, posted on social media stating that a high proportion of Zcash transactions can be traced. Yu Xian noted this is not new; Zcash does not enforce privacy by default but offers it as an option—addresses starting with "z" are strongly private, while those starting with "t" are transparent and traceable.
He pointed out that this design makes Zcash more acceptable to regulators compared to privacy coins like Monero, which enforce strong privacy by default. Currently, most mainstream platforms use t-addresses for Zcash, as the user base genuinely concerned about privacy is very small, and compliance with regulations remains the viable path for platforms.
In comparing privacy coins, Yu Xian believes Monero is more hardcore in terms of strong privacy but less favored by regulators, whereas Zcash achieves better balance in privacy design and may have broader development potential. He likened the three as follows: Bitcoin is like HTTP, Zcash like HTTP/HTTPS, and Monero like HTTPS.
Previous report, Arkham announced support for tracking Zcash on-chain data, having already tagged over half of its transactions.
