TechFlow news, on November 28, according to Cryptopolitan, Oleg Ogienko, a member of the Expert Committee of the State Duma's Working Group on Cryptocurrency Legislation and Regulation in Russia, suggested that the government grant amnesty to cryptocurrency miners using illegally imported mining equipment.
Ogienko said at the "Digital Almaz" forum held this week in Yakutsk that legislation should establish amnesty for the illegal importation of mining equipment, which would help more miners "come out of the shadows." Currently, about 60% of Russian cryptocurrency miners remain unregistered with the Federal Tax Service and operate outside regulatory oversight.
It is reported that Russia legalized cryptocurrency mining through legislation in 2024. So far, approximately 150 mining infrastructure operators and nearly 1,300 mining entities have been officially registered. Due to power shortages, over 10 regions have already imposed temporary or permanent bans on mining activities this year, and the federal government supports cracking down on illegal mining operations.
