TechFlow news, November 18 — According to Dlnews, Brazilian federal lawmaker Chrisóstomo de Moura has introduced a bill that aims to grant courts the power to freeze or confiscate cryptocurrency assets of suspects in cybercrime cases.
The bill allows judges, when handling fraud-related crimes, to take preventive measures either on their own initiative or upon request by prosecutors, including freezing cryptocurrency wallets and traditional financial assets. The lawmaker stated these preventive measures would help protect society and provide a strong tool against fraud.
The bill also proposes establishing a "National Fraud Victims Compensation Fund" to offer immediate assistance to victims, overcoming the delays associated with civil compensation procedures. In addition, the lawmaker called for harsher penalties against cybercriminals, including preventive detention, and restricting citizens' access to cryptocurrency trading platforms used for criminal activities. The bill is currently under committee review and is expected to take some time before final analysis is completed.
