TechFlow news, October 21: The Solana Foundation's latest proposal, SIMD-0266, plans to launch p-token as an efficient alternative to the current SPL Token program. This optimized version reduces computing unit consumption of the token program by up to 98% through zero heap allocation and zero-copy data access techniques, expected to free approximately 12% of block space for other transactions.
p-token is fully backward compatible, allowing users to replace existing implementations without code modifications. New Batch and UnwrapLamports instructions further optimize common DeFi operations. Neodyme has completed the audit, confirming that p-token produces identical outputs to the existing SPL Token program.
This proposal will work in conjunction with other network optimizations such as the 100M CU block to collectively enhance Solana's overall performance and transaction throughput.
