TechFlow news, September 26 — According to Decrypt, South Korean actress Hwang Jung-eum was sentenced by the Jeju District Court to two years in prison, suspended for four years, for misappropriating approximately 43.4 billion KRW (about 3 million USD) from her personally-held entertainment agency to invest in cryptocurrency, violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. The prosecution had requested a three-year prison term in August, but the court ultimately considered it her first offense and that she fully repaid the funds. The ruling revealed that about 4.2 billion KRW was directly invested in digital assets, with the remainder used for tax payments. Her legal team stated the funds originated from her personal earnings, and were temporarily held under her name because the company cannot directly own crypto assets. As a result, her appearances on variety shows and advertising collaborations have been removed.
