During the globally anticipated Token2049 summit, Dr. Feng Xiao, Chairman and CEO of HashKey Group, jointly launched the "Ethereum Applications Guild (EAG)" initiative with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
The initiative aims to bring together developers, researchers, teams, and institutions from the Ethereum ecosystem to build an open, transparent, and sustainable collaboration mechanism, accelerating the development and real-world adoption of native applications and advancing the Ethereum ecosystem from an "infrastructure-led" phase into a new era of "application-driven" growth.
Origin: The Exploration of Shanhai Dock, the Prototype of EAG
This initiative is built upon three years of on-site practice at "Shanhai Dock." As a native collaborative space initiated and supported by Dr. Feng Xiao in 2023, Shanhai Dock has previously operated in Beidahu, China, Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Singapore, gathering global builders to collaborate in person around AI, crypto, public blockchain ecosystems, and public goods.
Through three years of experimentation and accumulation at Shanhai Dock, participants have deeply recognized that the Ethereum ecosystem does not lack technology or imagination—what it truly lacks is a sustainable, structured mechanism for collective building. Funding for public goods and community support remains limited, and large-scale real-world applications have yet to emerge. The vision for EAG emerged directly from these explorations, accumulated insights, and identified challenges at Shanhai Dock, aiming to fundamentally address structural needs in application deployment, public goods support, and cross-domain collaboration.
Vision: Building a Collaborative Mechanism to Accelerate Real-World Application Deployment
EAG is not a traditional foundation or accelerator. It is an open initiative exploring the creation of a global collaboration network for Ethereum-native applications. Using Shanhai Dock as a primary application incubation site, it encourages more developers to build, validate, and advance solutions to real-world problems. This initiative proposes not an organizational entity, but a conceptual framework—a new paradigm of collaboration for builders within the Ethereum ecosystem.
Call to Action: From East to West, Rallying Global Ethereum Builders
At the launch event, Dr. Feng Xiao stated that the initiation of EAG marks a pivotal moment when Ethereum's application layer is "breaking out of its shell." Establishing such an alliance aims to unite diverse forces in welcoming the arrival of Ethereum’s—and blockchain’s—"1995 moment": a new era of explosive application growth.
HashKey will continue its unwavering commitment to building the Ethereum ecosystem and welcomes more native applications to grow and thrive on HashKey Chain L2, collectively enriching Ethereum’s application layer.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin attended the event in person and co-launched the initiative. During his speech at Shanhai Dock·Singapore the previous day, Vitalik expressed his hope that more long-term community builders, especially at the application layer, will choose Ethereum as their foundational infrastructure, collectively driving the ecosystem toward real-world impact.

Currently in its early consensus-building phase, the EAG initiative sincerely invites ETH treasury organizations, tech companies, Layer2 teams, developer communities, protocol organizations, and research institutions from around the world to join.
