BNB Chain ecosystem project Open Campus launches on Launchpad—what are the highlights?
"Making educators' contributions visible," a BNB Chain ecosystem project joins Launchpad again.
On April 21, Binance officially announced Open Campus (EDU), its 31st Launchpad project, making it the third project from the BNB Chain ecosystem to be featured on Binance Launchpad following Hooked and SpaceID.
What Is Open Campus?
Open Campus is a Web3 education protocol platform that enables teachers and creators to own their educational content via tokens and monetize it. The project’s mission is to incentivize educators’ contributions to society with proper recognition and provide students worldwide with a global alternative learning system.
Public information about Open Campus remains limited, prompting skepticism among researchers and users encountering the project for the first time. However, a closer look reveals that the team behind Open Campus boasts impressive credentials and experience.
Open Campus has built a robust protocol-layer infrastructure designed for schools, edtech platforms, and educators, enabling them to deliver educational content globally. Educational materials and courses can be tokenized as NFTs, with revenue generated distributed automatically via smart contracts to creators, NFT holders, and other contributors.
Its first adopter, TinyTap, is already a leader in the global education industry. Founded in 2012 by an Israeli team, TinyTap pioneered a no-code model allowing users to create educational content and lessons. The platform currently hosts over 250,000 interactive courses and ranks among the top ten highest-grossing children's mobile apps on both the App Store and Google Play. It has been used by more than 9 million families and over 100,000 creators, partnering with renowned publishers such as Sesame Street and Oxford University.
TinyTap was previously a standout project on BNB Chain. Data from early April showed TinyTap ranked among the top five most active dApps on BNB Chain by number of active wallets.
Beyond TinyTap, Open Campus has partnered with GEMS Education—one of the world’s largest private school networks—operating over 60 schools across North Africa and the Middle East, serving more than 130,000 students. Open Campus also collaborates with major partners including Animoca Brands, The Sandbox, Hooked Protocol, and Highstreet. As a community-driven protocol platform, Open Campus can continuously onboard high-quality educational providers, overcoming the typical cold-start challenges of two-sided markets, unlocking significant potential to engage both content creators and end users.
"Making Educators' Contributions Visible"
Educators’ income issues have long been criticized. Despite heavy workloads, immense effort, and significant societal impact, their compensation often falls short. This challenge lies at the heart of Open Campus’ design: by tokenizing educational content, the platform aims to make educators’ efforts “visible” and “recognized,” ensuring fair financial returns and encouraging the creation of even higher-quality educational resources.
Open Campus’ native utility token, EDU, supports multiple use cases including governance, payments, on-chain revenue sharing, user acquisition, and content ownership. Contributors—including content creators, publishers, and platforms—receive a share of protocol revenues in EDU. Users accessing products offered through Open Campus ecosystem partners (such as TinyTap) can enjoy discounts, while Publisher NFTs combined with EDU allow users to co-publish content, directly supporting educators.
As a community-driven on-chain protocol, Open Campus holds unique advantages over centralized platforms when attracting partners. Transparent and clearly defined revenue distribution encourages broader participation, expanding the user base and amplifying network effects for educators. Thanks to well-designed incentives, both the quantity and quality of educational content are expected to rise, creating a sustainable economic model that delivers long-term, mutually beneficial outcomes.
Finding Incremental Web3 Creators and Users
As competition intensifies for Web3’s native user base, lowering barriers and identifying universally accessible use cases has become a shared industry challenge.
Driving the next billion users into the Web3 world has long been BNB Chain’s vision, and BNB Chain is committed to providing maximum support to decentralized applications capable of reaching billions. Whether it’s social networking product Hooked Protocol, decentralized domain service SpaceID, or education protocol Open Campus, each holds massive user reach potential—with education standing out as the crown jewel.
TinyTap’s deep roots in the education sector have already earned it global acclaim. BNB Chain, as a reliable Web3 infrastructure capable of handling large-scale traffic, now offers the ideal gateway. As TinyTap founder Yogev Shelly noted, “TinyTap leveraged BNB Chain to activate its existing user base on-chain for the first time, and Open Campus’ utility token $EDU will be exclusively issued on BNB Chain.”
Starting as a protocol platform, Open Campus launched in strong collaboration with TinyTap. With solid foundational infrastructure in place, it addresses two critical Web3 pain points: shortage of high-quality content creators and difficulty achieving mainstream user growth. This positions Open Campus to build a truly inclusive, healthy creator economy relevant to everyday people.
BNB Chain currently hosts over 1,500 decentralized applications and ranks among the top blockchains in daily active users and transaction volume. Precisely because of this scale, BNB Chain must explore broader use cases, target larger user volumes, develop more sustainable economic models, and set longer-term goals. Recent initiatives—including launching the decentralized storage chain Greenfield, reducing gas fees, and the upcoming zkBNB rollout—are all strategic moves paving the way for mass adoption.
The listing of Open Campus Protocol on Binance Launchpad marks another milestone in BNB Chain’s expansion efforts and its ambition to become a blockchain serving one billion users. Time will tell whether it can break through industry bottlenecks and help bring more people into the Web3 world.
