Vitalik: Ethereum is like Linux, maintaining openness and freedom while providing value to a large number of users.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin compared Ethereum to BitTorrent and Linux on social media, highlighting its combination of decentralization and large-scale applications. He pointed out that Linux, as free and open-source software, is not only relied upon by billions of users and enterprises worldwide but is also widely used by governments. Vitalik emphasized that the Ethereum Layer 1 network must serve as a financial (and eventually identity, social, and governance) home for individuals and organizations, enabling users to access the full functionality of the network without relying on intermediaries. He believes that such an open and resilient ecosystem can provide value to a large number of users while earning the trust and favor of enterprises because "we call it trustlessness, they call it prudent counterparty risk minimization."
