dYmension is a modular settlement layer built on Cosmos. It provides all the tools and infrastructure needed to easily launch rollups as part of the Cosmos ecosystem, aiming to make RollApp (custom application-focused rollups) development seamless through dYmension Chain (settlement layer), RDK (RollApp Development Kit), and IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication).
A RollApp is an application-specific rollup. Unlike dApps built on general-purpose rollups, applications built as RollApps have their own autonomy. Inspired by the Cosmos ecosystem, Dymension has created its own Cosmos SDK for the Dymension ecosystem called RDK. RDK is a set of pre-packaged common modules that enable Cosmos SDK-compatible functionalities such as account creation and token management. RDK simplifies the process of deploying rollups on top of the Dimension settlement layer. RollApps are able to interact with any IBC-enabled chain via the dYmension Hub, making them part of the Cosmos ecosystem.
On February 9, 2023, Dymension completed a $6.7 million seed funding round led by Big Brain Holdings and Stratos.
