TechFlow news, August 18 — According to Jinshi Data, the Jackson Hole symposium is the focus of this week. ANZ economist Shwetha Sunilkumar said that last year Fed Chair Powell openly stated the rationale for imminent rate cuts during the meeting, but this year Powell may not be so forthright. Sunilkumar added that Powell might indicate a high likelihood of further easing this year, but will avoid committing to a specific timing, especially after last week's stronger-than-expected July services and producer price data heightened inflation concerns. She also noted that officials from some regional Federal Reserve banks have become more cautious about the timeline for future easing. The bank's baseline expectation remains that the Fed will cut rates at its September meeting.
