TechFlow news, July 10 — According to Dlnews, World, the crypto project founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (formerly Worldcoin), has suspended its iris scanning operations in Germany. The company's website indicates that "Orbs" scanning locations in Germany will be "back soon," and a spokesperson confirmed to DL News that the company is upgrading its scanning stations and plans to open a flagship location in Munich.
World is currently engaged in a legal dispute with the Bavarian Data Protection Authority. In December 2024, the agency ruled that World violated Europe's GDPR regulations and ordered the deletion of collected iris codes. World has appealed the decision and adjusted its data processing methods by encrypting users' iris data and distributing it across multiple servers.
