TechFlow, May 5 — According to Cointelegraph, at the Token2049 conference in Dubai, Vladimir, co-founder of the Web3 gaming project Notcoin, said the tap-to-earn gaming model may already be "dead" as it fails to sustainably maintain player interest.
Vladimir noted that game developers are shifting toward different game genres. Co-founder Sasha added that users prefer fun games they can play with friends rather than pure token mining. Although the first wave of games on Telegram lacked social elements, Web3 can still play a significant role in its gaming ecosystem.
Notcoin was one of the most popular tap-to-earn games on Telegram in 2024, attracting over 30 million users within three months of launch. Product lead Uliana Salo stated that while tap-to-earn is declining, Telegram's Web3 gaming industry still has the potential for exponential growth.
