TechFlow news — On February 16, according to Bitcoin.com, Tigran Gambaryan, Binance's Head of Financial Crime Compliance, recently reiterated that rogue Nigerian lawmakers had demanded a $150 million bribe in exchange for dropping lawsuits against Binance. In May 2024, it was reported that Binance CEO Richard Teng accused members of Nigeria’s House Committee on Financial Crimes (HCFC) of soliciting a $150 million bribe. At the time, Nigerian Minister of Information Mohammed Idris denied the allegations, calling them a distraction tactic by the company "eager to conceal serious criminal charges it faces." However, Gambaryan insists the bribery attempt did occur, with involvement from Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS). He also stated: "The Nigerian government has publicly claimed that $26 billion in mysterious funds flowed out of Nigeria via Binance—this is complete nonsense. This information was provided at their request and simply reflects cumulative trading data of Nigerians on the platform." Shortly after Gambaryan shared these details, Minister Idris issued a statement denying the claims. Nevertheless, the statement acknowledged the bribery allegations, with Idris noting that it was the Nigerian government that initiated the investigation, 'even though no formal lawsuit had been filed.' The statement also revealed that the Nigerian government rejected a U.S. proposal to pay $5 million to secure Gambaryan's release."
