TechFlow news: Cryptocurrency miner Gryphon Digital is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by its former partner Sphere 3D over a phishing attack that resulted in the theft of 26 bitcoins.
According to Sphere 3D's initial complaint filed in April, Gryphon CEO Rob Chang allegedly wired 18 BTC in January to a scammer impersonating Sphere 3D's CFO through a phishing attack. Within days, another 8 bitcoins were sent to the same address, resulting in total losses exceeding $500,000 at the time.
However, according to court documents filed by Gryphon on August 18, Sphere 3D demonstrated complete disregard for the protection, security, and control of its technological systems, which led Gryphon to send over $500,000 worth of bitcoin to the scammer—a loss that Gryphon cannot recover.
