On October 27, the sixth Blockchain Global Summit opened in Shanghai. At the summit, Gavin Wood, founder of Polkadot and Parity, stated that Polkadot represents next-generation blockchain technology, bringing many new features and possibilities. Currently, there are already hundreds of development teams using Substrate, with projects spanning various use cases—from enterprise chains to independent developers. Kusama is technologically very similar to Polkadot, sharing approximately 95% of the same codebase.
Therefore, Substrate and Kusama are tools or building blocks for Polkadot—Substrate being the framework used to build Polkadot, while Kusama serves as one of our mechanisms to ensure that systems deployed onto Polkadot are secure, reliable, and robust.
Polkadot is a heterogeneous multi-chain network, whose ultimate impact will be faster and cheaper transactions, truly delivering scalability. Polkadot's current goal is to handle 100 parallel chains simultaneously. China’s Polkadot ecosystem is rapidly growing, with numerous teams actively utilizing Substrate to develop real-world solutions—from bridges and DeFi to tools, infrastructure, and websites. We believe projects like Acala are truly driving the entire ecosystem forward.
