OpenAI plans to invest over $30 billion to build new data centers.

OpenAI announced on Wednesday that it will invest $20 billion to launch a data center project named "Camellia" in Effingham County, Georgia. Sachin Katti, OpenAI's Vice President of Compute Strategy, stated that the company has signed a contract with Georgia Power to secure 3.2 gigawatts of power supply between 2028 and 2032, and the project cost is expected to potentially exceed $30 billion. This could make the facility one of OpenAI's largest data centers to date. According to sources familiar with the matter, OpenAI has hired Brent Mayo to help ensure the data center project proceeds as planned; he is one of the key architects of Musk's data center construction projects.
