TechFlow News, July 16: According to Cointelegraph, the Czech Ministry of Finance on Monday added the prediction market platform Polymarket to the blacklist of unauthorized online gambling websites, requiring Internet service providers to block access to the platform within 15 days. This move is based on the country's "Gambling Act", which prohibits operators from providing unlicensed online gambling services to Czech users.
Polymarket is a prediction market platform where users trade contracts linked to the outcomes of future events. It gained global attention during the 2024 U.S. presidential election due to the widespread citation of its market data. Currently, the platform faces regulatory restrictions in EU countries such as France, Germany, Poland, Romania, and Spain. The European Securities and Markets Authority previously warned that certain prediction market contracts, if they meet the definition of financial instruments, may fall within the scope of binary options restrictions.
