TechFlow News, June 25: According to Nikkei, Japan’s SBI Group announced on June 25 that it will acquire cryptocurrency exchange Bitbank for JPY 46.7 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, the combined number of accounts held by SBI’s subsidiary SBI VC Trade and Bitbank will total approximately 2.92 million, with custodied virtual assets amounting to roughly JPY 1.1 trillion—making it the largest player in Japan’s industry. Earlier, in May, SBI disclosed that it was engaged in capital and business cooperation talks aimed at consolidating Bitbank.
