TechFlow reports that on May 18, Verus officially announced an attack on its Verus-Ethereum cross-chain bridge. ETH, USDC, and tBTC held in the Ethereum smart contract were drained. At present, other assets on the bridge appear unaffected. Verus also stated that its network has been suspended, and the majority of block-producing nodes have voluntarily gone offline following impacts related to this attack. The development team is investigating the attack vector and scope of impact, and will release further definitive information as soon as possible. Verus added that if the attacker fully reimburses the stolen funds, it will offer a bug bounty and waive any further legal liability. Additionally, according to an official notice, any private messages claiming to provide compensation on behalf of the team or community are fraudulent.
