TechFlow News, May 18: According to Bloomberg, Apple’s two-year partnership with OpenAI has suffered a serious rift. OpenAI believes the collaboration has fallen short of expectations—ChatGPT has received insufficient visibility within Apple’s ecosystem, its feature access points remain obscure, and subscription conversions are far below targets. OpenAI has now engaged external law firms to explore legal options, including issuing a notice of breach to Apple. An OpenAI executive stated that Apple “hasn’t even made an honest effort.” No final decision has been made yet, and OpenAI still hopes to resolve the matter out of court.
Meanwhile, Apple plans to introduce a multi-AI integration mechanism in iOS 27, testing integrations with Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini—further eroding OpenAI’s exclusive status.
