TechFlow News: On May 8, the U.S. seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment for April stood at 115,000, significantly exceeding the expected 62,000 and up from the previously reported 178,000—revised to 185,000. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment rose in healthcare, transportation and warehousing, and retail trade in April, while federal government employment continued to decline.
February’s nonfarm payroll figure was revised downward by 23,000—from –133,000 to –156,000—while March’s figure was revised upward by 7,000—from +178,000 to +185,000. After these revisions, the combined February–March payroll change was 16,000 lower than originally reported. As a result, February’s data now appears weaker, while March’s shows modest improvement.
