TechFlow News, May 5: According to CNBC, James Dyett, OpenAI’s Head of Sales, announced his departure on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. Dyett joined OpenAI in 2023 and oversaw both enterprise sales and API sales during his tenure. His LinkedIn profile lists his title as “Head of Sales,” while OpenAI refers to him as “Senior Head of Sales.” OpenAI is currently valued by private investors at over $850 billion.
Dyett stated he will join venture capital firm Thrive Capital as an “Operator in Residence.” Thrive is a long-standing investor in OpenAI, and its founder, Joshua Kushner, maintains close ties with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
This departure marks one of several recent executive changes at OpenAI. Fidji Simo, Head of Product and Business, took medical leave last month due to worsening neuroimmune disease; Kate Rouch, Head of Marketing, resigned to focus on cancer recovery; and Brad Lightcap, Head of Operations, transitioned to a new role overseeing “special projects.” Additionally, Bill Peebles, former head of OpenAI’s Sora short-video application, and Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Vice President of Science, have also previously announced their departures.
