TechFlow News, April 2: According to JINSHI Data, the Trump administration will appeal a ruling by a federal judge that blocked its ban on government use of Anthropic’s technology. On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a notice in court stating it would appeal the March ruling by U.S. District Judge Rita F. Lin of the Northern District of California in San Francisco. Judge Lin had previously paused the government’s plan to sever ties with Anthropic to maintain the status quo while legal challenges proceed; however, she stayed her ruling for one week to afford the government an opportunity to appeal. Anthropic filed the lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Defense’s determination that its technology poses a threat to the U.S. supply chain. In her March 26 ruling, the judge sided with Anthropic, finding the government’s national-security justification for the ban questionable. The judge characterized the move as more akin to “punishing” Anthropic—because the company had demanded assurances that its technology would not be used for surveillance of Americans or for autonomous weapons deployment.
