TechFlow News, March 24: According to a Fortune report, Beam CEO Alex Stephany wrote an article challenging Palantir CEO Alex Karp’s prediction that AI will erode the economic standing of workers with humanities backgrounds—arguing that such an outcome reflects a subjective choice rather than an inevitable one. The article notes that while AI’s rapid advancement has generated enormous wealth, U.S. unemployment has simultaneously reached a four-year high, and income inequality continues to widen; technological progress does not automatically equate to social progress.
Stephany argues that AI should prioritize sectors facing severe labor shortages—such as healthcare, social services, and infrastructure—enhancing efficiency without displacing large numbers of workers. He further emphasizes that AI tools must be co-developed with frontline workers, not unilaterally imposed. He calls on industry leaders to stop forecasting who will be left behind by the times—and instead proactively decide who will be lifted up by technology.
