TechFlow News, February 25: According to DL News, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new law granting Russian courts the authority to seize cryptocurrencies during criminal investigations. The law amends Russia’s Criminal Code to classify cryptocurrencies as a form of intangible property.
Elena Ardabyeva, Deputy Minister of Justice of Russia, stated that the law formally incorporates existing digital asset seizure agreements into the legal framework and provides a legal pathway for cooperation with foreign cryptocurrency exchanges. Under the law, requests by police or prosecutors to seize cryptocurrencies must include detailed information such as token type, quantity, and wallet address. Experts suggest the Kremlin may begin blocking Russian citizens’ access to overseas cryptocurrency exchanges this year.
