TechFlow News, February 12: According to The Block, Israeli prosecutors have filed charges against an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reservist and a civilian, accusing them of using classified military information to place bets on the blockchain-based prediction market platform Polymarket.
The prosecution alleges that the reservist obtained sensitive operational intelligence through his military position and shared it with the civilian, who then used the information to bet on military-related events on Polymarket. The Tel Aviv District Court lifted an injunction at the request of the State Attorney’s Office’s Cyber Unit. The suspects were arrested during a joint operation conducted by Israel’s Internal Security Agency (Shin Bet), the police, and the Ministry of Defense’s Security Investigation Division. Both defendants face charges of serious security-related offenses, bribery, and obstruction of justice.
