TechFlow News, February 12: According to JINSHI Data, citing U.S. financial media outlet Semafor and anonymous sources, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent, during a closed-door meeting with Senate Republicans on Wednesday, agreed with a proposal put forward by some senators—to have the Senate Banking Committee, rather than the Department of Justice, conduct an investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Powell. An anonymous senator familiar with the matter stated that this move aims to “test the waters” to see whether such an arrangement might persuade North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis to lift his hold on Fed nominees. “They want to dangle this condition in front of Thom and see if he bites,” the senator said. “Thom remained expressionless.” Another source indicated this could be a viable compromise. A Republican member of Congress remarked, “The President wants an investigation,” and having the Banking Committee fulfill that investigative desire is one possible option. However, the first-mentioned senator remains skeptical: “I’d actually be surprised if Thom accepts it.”
