TechFlow News, February 11: According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, on Tuesday, U.S. House of Representatives members rejected Speaker Mike Johnson’s attempt to block a vote on President Trump’s tariff decision—a move that dealt a heavy blow to Johnson’s leadership and paved the way for lawmakers’ criticism of Trump’s signature economic policy.
The procedural motion failed with 217 votes against and 214 in favor. Three Republican members joined all 214 Democrats in voting against the motion, defeating it in the narrowly divided House. This vote means Democrats can now bring their resolution challenging Trump’s tariff policy to a full House floor vote—potentially initiating a series of highly anticipated votes as early as Wednesday local time.
Although Trump may veto any resolution sent to his desk, passage of the vote represents a public repudiation of Trump’s tariff policy and is likely to trigger a strong reaction from the White House. (Jinshi)
