TechFlow News, February 9: According to a Decrypt report, blockchain security firm Scam Sniffer has issued a warning that the number of victims of signature phishing attacks in January 2026 increased by 207% compared to December, with 4,700 wallets compromised and total losses amounting to $6.27 million.
Signature phishing attacks involve attackers luring users into signing off-chain messages on malicious decentralized applications (dApps). These seemingly harmless requests may in fact authorize unlimited token spending or non-fungible token (NFT) transfers, enabling attackers to drain victims’ wallets.
Researchers noted that the Ethereum Fusaka upgrade significantly reduced transaction fees, making attack methods such as address poisoning more attractive. Blockchain researcher Andrey Sergeenkov discovered that the number of newly created addresses surged last month—2.7 million new addresses were generated within one week, approximately 170% higher than normal levels.
