TechFlow News, February 7: According to a Cointelegraph report, stablecoin issuer Tether froze approximately $544 million worth of cryptocurrency assets at the request of Turkish authorities. These assets are linked to a network suspected of operating illegal online gambling and money laundering activities.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, confirmed that the company complied with a request from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to seize assets belonging to Veysel Sahin, who is accused of running an illegal gambling platform and engaging in money laundering. This action forms part of Turkey’s broader investigation into underground gambling and payment networks; through such investigations, Turkish authorities have seized over $1 billion in assets.
Tether disclosed that it has assisted law enforcement agencies in over 1,800 cases across 62 countries globally, freezing approximately $3.4 billion worth of USDT associated with suspected illicit activities.
